Grammy nominated violinist Jenny Oaks Baker gives GTU a sneak peek of her holiday show

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah) – It’s time to get your tickets for an incredible holiday performance from Utah’s own Jenny Oaks Baker. The Grammy-nominated and Billboard charting violinist is back on the show with a sneak peek of her Joy to the World! A Sacred Celebration musical production.

Baker tells us that the production will blend artistry with the true meaning of the season, the birth of Jesus Christ. The tour will visit 13 cities in Colorado, Texas, Utah, Idaho, Florida, Virginia and California. Baker will be joined by her children, (who she says she loves working with now that she’s an empty nester) the Family Four, along with internationally celebrated mezzo-soprano Angela Brower, and acclaimed baritone and narrator Preston Yates.

Jenny Oaks Baker: Pursuing Mastery In Christ & Reflecting On Her Father (President Dallin H Oaks)

Jenny Oaks Baker is a Grammy-nominated violinist and is a former member of the National Symphony Orchestra. Jenny has released twenty studio albums, several of which have ranked high on the Billboard charts. Jenny's Father, Dallin Harris Oaks, recently became the 19th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I wanted to speak to Jenny about the intersection of music and faith, the pursuit of mastery, and the influence of her parents who are incredibly influential in the Latter-day Saint community. Some highlights from this episode include which performance from Jenny's career stands out most, specific examples of how Jenny's parents brought faith into her musical development when she was younger, and how she navigates a life of touring and music with raising a family.

President Dallin H. Oaks: What a Daughter Learned from Her Father

The Lord prepares his prophets long before this life and carefully and exquisitely molds their lives on earth to prepare them in specific ways for the heavy responsibility they receive. As God said of Jeremiah, “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations” (Jeremiah 1:5)

So it was with Jeremiah, Joseph Smith, Russell M. Nelson, and so many others, and so it is with Dallin H. Oaks, who became President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this week. As you look at his life, you can see the Lord’s shaping hand upon it.

Like his seatmate for 40 years in the apostleship, Russell M. Nelson, President Oaks’ talents, leadership, and brilliance are proverbial and simply staggering. A seed of striving for excellence grew in him from his earliest days, and time and again, through an entire lifetime of achievement, he performed wisely and well.
